Surgeon: Mr Sanjeev S Madan

Mr Sanjeev Madan is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon since 2004. His NHS practice is based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Sheffield Children's Hospital and private practice is based in Thornbury and Claremont Hospital Sheffield, and Parkhill Hospital, Doncaster. He is Onehealth Sheffield LLP member.

He has a dedicated practice in young adult hips. He regularly gets referrals for hip joint preservation surgery from Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire.

He learnt hip joint preservation techniques during his fellowship with pioneering surgeon Prof. Reinhöld Ganz from Bern. He also learnt various other techniques during his fellowship in Hospital for Joint Diseases, New York University.

He learnt Hip Arthroscopy Surgery from pioneering Surgeons Marc Phillipon, from Steadman Hawkins Institute in Vail, Colorado and from Hassan Sadri from Switzerland.

He has expertise in the following surgeries

1.    Hip arthroscopy, labral repairs and treatment of FemoroAcetabular Impingement (FAI)

2.    Minimally Invasive Bernese Periacetabular Osteotomy (PAO)

3.    Surgical Dislocations of the hip

4.    Transcervical, Intertrochanteric/Pertrochanteric osteotomies for proximal femoral   deformities and avascular necrosis (AVN)

5.    Carlioz, Tonnis, Shelf, Salter's, and Dega type of pelvic osteotomies

6.    Ilizarov Hip Reconstruction/ Pelvic Support Osteotomies

7.    Articulated Hinged distraction for painful hip pathologies

8.    Total Hip Replacement

9.    Hip Resurfacing in selected young adult males.


He has published and presented on hip joint preservation surgery nationally and internationally.

He has been involved in teaching these techniques in various centres viz. Linköping University Hospital, Sweden, Bangalore, Glasgow Sick Children's Hospital, and Cairo, Egypt.
